27 Week Update

We went to the perinatologist today. Everything is looking great. Ellie got to see her baby brother on the TV screen. She thought it was cool that he was playing peek a boo with her. (He had both his hands and feet up near his face and it looked like he was covering his eyes.) The corda plexi cyst that we saw in his brain in December has completely dissolved just like the doctor said it would. We were very relieved about that. Carter's heartrate was right at 151 bpm which is perfect. He weighs 2 pounds 2 ounces at this point. The doctor said at this rate it he estimates Carter will be about an 8 pound baby. I wasn't very happy to hear that at all!!! That's a pound and a half bigger than Elle was. Yikes! He is also in the breach position at this point too. I'm really not very happy about that but we still have some time for him to flip into a better position. The doctor said that after 34 weeks babies tend to stay put in the position they are in because of lack of room to make large movements. So keep your fingers crossed for us that he cooperates and flips around for us in the next 7 weeks. At this point we do not have to return to the perinatologist. He said to just continue the regular OB care from here on out. Here are 3 ultrasound pictures we got today.

This is a view looking at Carter face on. You can see that his face looks like a skeleton in this view.

Here is a profile shot of Carter's face. You can see how well defined the forhead, nose, lips and chin are. So far he doesn't look like he has the Kaltenbach chin that Elle has. You can also see his right hand just above his chin and the little fingers of his left hand resting below his chin. I believe that the smudgy looking things above his head and body are his leg and foot. That just doesn't look very comfortable to me at all!

This is the coolest picture of all. It is Carter's hand giving us the thumbs up as if to say, "Hey Mom and Dad, I'm doing just fine in here. No worries, all is okay." Elle thinks he's saying, "I'm a cool dude. I'm a cool baby!"

Well that's it for now. We'll have another update after our 28 week regular OB visit on the 26th.

The ultrasound pictures are awesome! The last time I talked to sara, she said you guys didn't have to drink 64 oz. of water anymore and hold it to get a good ultrasound these days! What a relief THAT is!
