It's a Boy!

So it's official. It's a boy! We're very excited, Ellie included. Everything looks good at this point. There is a small water cyst in the brain. I can't remember the actual medical term for it. He said this is nothing to be concerned about at all, especially since the rest of the brain, heart, kidneys, spine and bone lengths all are normal. All of our genetic blood tests have been normal too. He explained it as a cyst filled with the same water that surrounds the brain and spinal fluid. He said he has never had one that didn't go away on it's own. He said he sees this at least once a day and in healthy normal babies more than abnormal babies. He wants to see us back in 8 weeks for another ultrasound to check on this again but totally expects it to be gone. The baby weighs 10 oz., exactly what it should weigh at this point. Here are a couple of face shots from our ultrasound today.

The baby is looking right at you. You can see the 2 halves of the brain, the eyes, nose, mouth, hands up by the head and the belly. The black spot on the left side of the belly is the stomach.

This is a closer head shot. You can see the brain, eyes, nose and chin. There are 2 little hands on the right side of the picture up by the head.

We go back to the regular OB on Jan. 2nd and the perinatologist on Feb. 15th. In the mean time, we'll be busy trying to decide on a boy name.
